Stop Smoking With The Help Of Exercise

If you’ve finally decided to take everyone’s advice and stop smoking, along with any other treatment you may choose to undergo, you will also have to make some changes in your lifestyle. Studies have shown that exercise is one of the best ways to keep your mind off cigarettes and relive stress. Instead of thinking about smoking, why use your energy thinking of ways in which you can increase your exercise levels so that you can be healthier and happier.

You could start slow and easy with just a walk around the block every morning or perhaps after dinner every evening. Anybody can do that. It’s easy, does not take too much time and still offers a lot of benefits. If you feel up to it, you could even decide to enroll at a nearby recreational center or a local gym. Whatever you choose to do, remember it has to be done regularly in order to gain the most benefits. If joining a gym is inconvenient for any reason, try and get involved with one of the various local recreational centers, which offer leagues in a wide range of sports including tennis, bowling and basketball.

The first step is always the hardest. Once you’ve taken that first big step, the next thing you should strive for is to exercise regularly and stick to your exercise routine. Don’t make excuses and procrastinate saying you’ll start exercising when you get your exercise equipment. You have a lot of options open to you, exercise equipment or not. You do not need anything if you are just walking around nor do you need it if you are joining the gym. Remember, the first step towards living a healthy life is exercise. And by making excuses, the only getting cheated is you.

Try and figure out what time of the day is the best and most convenient time for you to exercise. While some people would prefer to get their exercise before going off to work, some others prefer to get their work-out done in the evenings so that they can also reduce the stress of their work-day.

It does not matter what you choose to do, the important thing is that you need to do something physical and get moving. Replace that cigarette that you are habituated to smoking during the office break and instead go for a walk. Treat yourself to an occasional soda or a cup of coffee. If it is not possible to go for a walk during office timing, may be you could take a reading break instead of a smoke break. Reading certainly offers you far more benefits than smoking does.

Spend some time on planning out your days and fit in some physical activity that you enjoy doing. You could choose to take the dog for a run or take your kids out to the park. It is a good idea to plan an action-packed day that leaves you with no free time to think of smoking.

Make a note of the various incidents or occasions in your life that acted as stressors and caused you to reach out and light up a cigarette in an attempt to de-stress. Instead, indulge in some physical activity to get rid of your stress and you will be well on the road to stop smoking.
