Stop Smoking With Hypnosis
Many people are under the mistaken notion that if they undergo hypnosis they should be cured of their smoking habit in a matter of days. Unfortunately, it does not quite work that way. Smoking is an addictive habit that is very difficult to break. A smoker’s mind gets programmed to need a cigarette during certain stressful events or just certain times of the day. Some people may feel the need to smoke a cigarette as soon as they wake up or maybe when they are waiting at the airport or perhaps while reading the morning newspaper. Then, when they make the decision to stop smoking, they feel strange as if they are giving up something, which they are.
It’s at a weak moment when you are at your lowest maybe because something bad has just happened to you, or you are under tremendous stress, that’s when you are most likely to get back into the habit. At times like these you feel the need to reach out to something comforting and your thoughts go back to your cigarettes, which used to calm you down when you smoked. Though you did possess a willpower that was strong enough to enable you to quit, it fails you at times when you are highly stressed and you find yourself wanting desperately to smoke and you finally give in. It’s a question of your subconscious mind getting out of sync with the conscious mind.
Now you need to be able to get the subconscious and the conscious mind back together. The subconscious mind needs to be strengthened so that it can start thinking of smoking in a different way. That way, your subconscious mind, which is now stronger, immediately takes over in moments of weakness and offers the right suggestions. Because hypnosis works on the principle of positive imagery your mind no longer things of the things you have given up. Instead your mind now concentrates on different thoughts like a refreshing glass of water, or how healthy you suddenly feel at the moment or how good everything is in general.
In the absence of this chemical addiction, your energy levels will start increasing, which will help you get more physical exercise. Your subconscious is now even more convinced that you are doing something good and it concentrates more on the benefits and the good feelings and starts thinking less about the things that you’ve given up.
Hypnosis works, but it takes time. One hypnotic session is not powerful enough to bring about an instant change in the way your mind thinks. The advantage of hypnotism is that you can record the suggestions and listen to it over and over again, whenever you feel the need to. When you are just starting out you’d probably feel the need to listen to these hypnotism tapes two or three times a week, but as time goes by and you get stronger you will find yourself depending on these stop smoking tapes less frequently.
