Stop Smoking With Zyban

If you are addicted to nicotine or perhaps were addicted to it in the past, chances are you would have made several attempts to quit the habit and you know how difficult that can be. And if everybody in your family smokes or if you’ve been smoking for any length of time, it makes giving up even more difficult. Of course a lot also depends on the number of cigarettes you are accustomed to smoking in a day. Having a lot of willpower can be very helpful in preventing you from relapsing back into your smoking habit. But nicotine is very addicting and sometimes you need more than just willpower. You need outside help that can support you in your fight against smoking.

There has been an ongoing search for new medications that are more effective in helping smokers give up the habit and lately a few medications have been introduced into the market. Some smokers have found it very helpful to use a nicotine patch, which is placed on the skin and works by releasing nicotine into the body steadily in small doses right through the day.

Zyban is a medicine that was originally used to treat depression. But the people who took Zyban discovered that after taking the medication, they had a much lesser desire to pick up a cigarette and smoke. Zyban also helped them to stop smoking more easily. Further research and tests revealed that it did indeed help smokers give up their addiction.

Zyban works by altering the brain make up so that the desire to smoke is lost. When the urge to smoke is lost, smokers automatically find that cigarettes are not so appealing to them anymore and they have lost the desire to smoke.

Physicians advise smokers to gradually let the medication build up in the body before they quit. So before you actually stop smoking altogether you would have to necessarily begin taking Zyban at least for two or three weeks before. Once the medication is built up within your system, you will find that quitting is easier.

However, Zyban is not available over-the-counter and can only be bought if accompanied by a prescription. Research has proven that it works but scientists are still trying to ascertain how it works. Besides, some people have suffered serious side effects including seizures and dizziness after taking Zyban, while others who’ve taken the medication have had trouble sleeping.

If you are one of those who are still trying to give up the habit, odds are high that you would have already attempted several methods of treatment. Even if you’ve failed several times, do not give up. Instead maybe you could try some other method of treatment and you will eventually find one that suits you best. Sometimes a combination of various methods can prove to be the most effective in helping you fight this highly addictive drug. Never give up, no matter how dismal it may look. Keep visualizing yourself as healthy and smoke free and you are sure to reach that goal one day.
